An investigation begun last month ended WEdnesday evening when federal and local law enforcement officers seized a large quantity of illegal drugs and an automatic machine gun in a drug bust on Salt Lake's west side.

A 42-year-old man was arrested after officers from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, Salt Lake County deputy sheriffs and Metro Narcotics officers, acting on a federal search warrant, found three kilograms of cocaine in an apartment on the 1000 West block of 600 South, said Drew Moren, DEA agent-in-charge.The authorities also searched a storage locker and found about 30 lbs. of marijuana, Moren said. The cocaine's street value was estimated at $300,000, and the marijuana has a street value of up to $36,000, he said.
