The Joffrey Ballet, founded in 1956 by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino, celebrates its 35th anniversary in 1991 with a focus on new American choreography and revivals of international masterworks of the 20th century.

For its three-week spring engagement at the New York State Theater (Feb. 26-March 17), the Joffrey will feature five premieres, including "Lila" by Alonso King and "Lacrymosa" by Edward Stierle.The four revivals will be George Balanchine's pas de deux, "Tarantella"; Robert Joffrey's "Postcards"; John Cranko's "Romeo and Juliet" and Kurt Jooss' "The Green Table."
