Producer David Merrick has kayoed his Broadway revival "Oh, Kay!" at least until spring, when he says he'll bring the 1927 musical back for another round.
`Oh, Kay!" will close Sunday at New York's Richard Rodgers Theater after a two-month run. It will tour before its spring return, a spokesman for the show said Wednesday. The musical, with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, will visit such cities as Philadelphia and Washington, spokesman Josh Ellis said.
Merrick's decision to close and to reopen around Easter was "purely economic," said Ellis, adding that the musical's advance sales were concentrated in the spring.
Business for the musical has been less than boffo, with Variety reporting Monday that the week before Christmas "Oh, Kay" played to less than 50 percent capacity.
