At least 28 earthquakes - the strongest a moderate jolt measuring up to 4.7 on the Richter scale - rumbled through the Carson City area in one day, cracking plaster and loosening ceiling tiles but causing no injuries.

The strongest quake Wednesday was felt as far as Lake Tahoe, 30 miles to the west, and shook the Nevada capitol and other government buildings.The epicenter was in hills three miles north of Carson City, University of Nevada-Reno seismological laboratory staffers said.
