A man who had been barricaded in the Mesa County Courthouse since Tuesday was taken into custody this morning after police negotiators apparently talked him into surrendering.
Police Sgt. Greg Kuhn said Kevin Firth, 30, was taken into custody at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.Firth had been in the courthouse since his wife, Helen, slipped him a gun and the two took three hostages Tuesday morning just prior to his hearing on sex-assault charges.
All three hostages were released earlier, with the last walking out about 2 a.m. Wednesday. Firth told police about 5 a.m. that his wife had shot herself dead. Her death was later confirmed.
