Grades and test scores of students entering Westminster College have improved since 1986, the school said.

Charles H. Dick, Westminster president since 1985, said the average American College Test (ACT) scores for incoming freshmen have increased from 20 in 1986 to 22.4 last fall.High school grade-point averages for incoming freshmen have risen from 2.96 in 1986 to 3.28 this year.

In fall 1986, 8.1 percent of undergraduate applications were denied admission. This fall, 12.2 percent were denied. For graduate-level programs, the application-denial rate was 8.1 percent in fall of 1986, and 17.2 percent this year.

Student retention increased by 3.8 percent during the same period.
