Nearly 180 entries were received in the Deseret News "Hey Dudes, Color Us and Win Contest."

Actually, the coloring contest, open to boys and girls in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades, was organized to introduce "The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" comic strip in the pages of the Deseret News. The comic strip started Dec. 10 and will run Monday through Saturday following the continuing adventures of the pizza-loving, sewer-dwelling creatures.According to Sherry Madsen, one of the contest judges and a member of the Newspaper in Education staff at the Deseret News, "All of the entries were excellent and it was hard to choose winners. I wish they all could have won, they were all good."

Five winners in each grade were chosen. Each received a Deseret News sports-page T-shirt featuring the reproduction of an actual Deseret News sports page on the day Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy.

First-grade winners and their schools are Daniel Krahenbuhl, Altara Elementary, Sandy; Tyson Kyle Hyde, Woods Cross Elementary, Woods Cross; Christopher Matheson, Uintah Elementary, Salt Lake City; Christopher Trujillo, Meadow Elementary, Lehi; and Michael Thurston, Oakwood Elementary, Salt Lake City.

Second-grade winners and their schools are Jon Blair, Monte Vista Elementary, South Jordan; Michael Johnson, Farr West Elementary, Farr West; Becky Baddley, Northridge Elementary, Orem; Jessica Sorensen, South Jordan Elementary, South Jordan; and Brandon Leib, Jennie P. Stewart Elementary, Centerville.

Third-grade winners and their schools are Nicole Wenerstrom, Bacchus Elementary, Kearns; Brandon Jones, Meadowbrook Elementary, Centerville; Russell D. Rasmussen, Columbia Elementary, West Jordan; Corinne Neves, Cottonwood Elementary, Salt Lake City; and Kent E. Page, Truman Elementary, Murray.

Fourth-grade winners and their schools are Brian Blair, Jordan District, South Jordan; Meghann Fry, Knowlton Elementary, Farmington; Adam Parker, Barrot Elementary, Highland; David Pinegar, Westmore Elementary, Orem; and Nelson Leach, Excel Elementary, Tooele.
