Kent Nielsen, judge of the Richfield Precinct Justice Court, has been reappointed to that position by the Sevier County Commission. His new four-year term will begin Feb. 2.
Commissioners generally call for applications for Justice Court positions, and Commissioner Jerry Nice admitted there may be criticism for making the appointment without considering other applications. But he reasoned that the move "will save the county money in the long run," adding, "We have never received any complaints about Judge Nielsen or his office."The Justice Court precinct office was recently closed in Salina and Judge Nielsen now works in an office in Richfield.
The judge will perform swearing-in ceremonies of newly elected county officials on Jan. 2 at the courthouse.
