Jewel Jacobsen Bindrup, a former state education official and advocate for gifted-education programs, died of cancer Dec. 26, 1990, in her Midvale home. She was 75.

In 1965, Mrs. Bindrup was appointed English education specialist in the State Office of Education. She retired in 1983.Mrs. Bindrup earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at Utah State University, and a degree in education administration from the University of Utah. She also studied at Northwestern University, Williams College and the University of Nevada.

She taught in Grace, Idaho, at Logan High and in Weber County Schools, before being appointed to the state job.

At her request, no funeral, viewing or grave-side services will be held.
