Murray Mayor Lynn Pett is one of two Utahns to receive the "Take Pride in America" National Award.

The award is sponsored annually by the National Park Service's Land and Water Conservation Fund.Pett's certificate of merit, signed by both the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and Secretary of Interior, was presented to the mayor by Lyle Bennett, grants coordinator for State Parks and Recreation.

Bennett, the second Utah recipient of the award, was honored for his efforts in handling land/water fund grants.

Pett was recognized for lifetime work with parks and recreation. He has received more than $2 million in grants from the Department of the Interior.

Pett said the grants were used to developed the east 17 acres of Murray Park, the park's swimming pool, Southwood Neighborhood Park, Hidden Village Neighborhood Park, the Murray Parkway Golf Course and some of the property the city acquired for the Jordan Parkway development.
