Highland Ridge Hospital will provide free cab rides home for New Year's Eve partygoers who are unable to drive home safely on their own.

From 11 p.m. New Year's Eve to 4 a.m. New Year's Day, people can call the center's helpline, 272-HELP, for service. The offer is also extended to the partners of people who have had too much to drink."Every year we get more calls," said Robert Boswell, Highland administrator. Last year, more than 500 rides were provided. This is the seventh year the center has offered the holiday service.

A growing awareness of the problems of drinking and driving and a related increase in social responsibility are reasons for the increase, he said. KSTU-Channel 13 is helping with the New Year's Eve campaign.
