An early morning fire that caused up to $30,000 in damage to an Ogden minister's home here is under investigation by the Syracuse Fire Department.

Fire Chief Tom Jensen said the blaze was reported about 3 a.m. Thursday at the home of the Rev. Randall Cates. It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to control the flames. The fire destroyed the front room, kitchen, hall and bathroom, Jensen said.

Cates was treated at Humana Hospital Davis North for smoke inhalation and released, Jensen said. His wife and children were staying with a friend at the time of the fire.

Jensen said Friday the state fire marshal had not determined the cause of the blaze, although investigators had determined its point of origin was in front of the living room fireplace.
