The Utah Girl Scout Council is sponsoring a two-week Western Winter Adventure, including sports and seminars on survival training and winter resort career opportunities, beginning Thursday, Dec. 27, and continuing through Sunday, Jan. 6.

The outing for 29 Girl Scouts representing 16 states from across the country will span a unique range of winter sports, coupled with seminars on winter survival skills and resort career opportunities, said Kathryn Bise, the council's public relations director.Girl Scout councils across the country provide wider opportunities, a chance for girls to experience another culture, to interact with other Girl Scouts and to develop skills and career education, Bise said.

Many people's knowledge about Girl Scouting is limited to Girl Scout cookie sales and camps, but the winter activity will show Girl Scouting in a broader perspective - how the organization celebrates diversity and teaches girls about pride in all cultures, she said.

Sundance, Solitude and Park City ski resorts and Camp Trefoil Ranch and Camp Cloud Rim will be sites for some of the activities. Out-of-state girls will stay with a host family during the two weeks.
