Fifteen workers were evacuated from SPS Technologies, 4700 S. 5195 West, Wednesday morning, following a hazardous-chemical spill.

Investigators said an unidentified chemical - believed to be anhydrous ammonia - was spilling from a 500-gallon container. Salt Lake County firefighters and hazardous-materials teams were sent to the scene. The spill was reported at 9:30 a.m. No one was injured, but one worker may have been exposed to the chemical and was examined by paramedics at the scene.

One worker said he heard what sounded like a high-pressure gas leak when he entered the large building. The company, which manufactures titanium fasteners, uses several kinds of chemicals. Only a skeleton crew was working Wednesday because of the holidays.
