Irene Midgley Kirby died Wednesday December l9, l990, in her home in Salt Lake City after a two year illness.
She was born November l9, l893, at 250 So. 5th East, Salt Lake City and attended Oquirrh, Lowell, LDS High, Utah State University and University of Utah. Irene was a member of Sorosis Sorority at UAC in Logan and became a charter member of Chi Omega when it organized at the U of U which she also attended.She was a faithful Latter-Day Saint and was a descendant of Pres. John R. Winder who as a counselor to Pres. Wilford Woodruff, was assigned the job of finishing the Salt Lake Temple which had been under construction for forty years. He was founder of Winder Dairy. Irene's parents were John and Eliza Winder Midgley. Her siblings were Helen, George, Howard and Allen, deceased. Irene married Gordon Ivins-Kirby, who she met at UAC. He was a chemist for Utah Oil refining Co. They took vows in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in l9l6.
Irene is survived by sons, Gordon, Salt Lake City; John, LaJolla, Calif.; and Richard, Bogota, Columbia S.A.; eight grandchildren.
Last rites will be Thursday December 27, l990 l p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, Wasatch Lawn Cemetery on Highland Drive.
