A man accused of robbing a Smith's Food and Drug Center the day after Thanksgiving pleaded not guilty Friday to the robbery charge in 4th District Court.
William Joseph Smith, 33, of 918 E. Carnation Drive, Sandy, entered the not-guilty plea to the first-degree felony before Judge Cullen Y. Christensen. Christensen, who was filling in for Judge Ray M. Harding, said a trial date would be set when Harding returned from vacation.Smith allegedly entered the Smith's Freedom Boulevard store on Nov. 23 and robbed the store's ticket booth and escaped with more than $5,000. The money has not been recovered. Smith remains in custody at the Utah County Jail.
