Francis Ford Coppola wants to earn a degree of professional redemption with the "The Godfather: Part III." Coppola had a string of failures and so-so movies like "One From the Heart," "Gardens of Stone" and "The Cotton Club" in the '80s and knows his image has been damaged.
"I want my career to be in a place that gives me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction," Coppola said in an interview with The New York Times. "I'm very embarrassed about my career over the last 10 years," he said."You know an Italian family puts a lot of stock on not losing face, not making what we call una brutta figura, or bad showing. When you have people writing about you in a mocking way and making fun of your ideas and calling you a crackpot, that's a real brutta figura. I want to be considered a vital American filmmaker and have the country be proud of me."
