Of all the cars and trucks in the shopping mall's parking lot on one of the year's busiest shopping days, a quartet of would-be car thieves picked on a police surveillance van in Lakeland, Fla.

"It was hard to keep from laughing," Mike Link, one of three officers hiding in the back of the van Saturday when one of the group climbed inside and turned the key.The would-be thief was grabbed from behind by a Lakeland police officer and arrested with his buddies. "He was definitely surprised, because he screamed a lot," said Link. The van was part of a special unit, including foot patrols and undercover cars, dispatched to the Lakeland Square mall to combat holiday-related parking lot crime.
