Jazz forward Pat Cummings was cut by the Jazz Sunday following their 99-93 loss to the Miami Heat.

Cummings, who did not play against the Heat, appeared in four games totaling 15 points and collecting five rebounds. His highest output was a 10-point effort against Atlanta on Thursday."We're just going to go a different direction," said Coach Jerry Sloan.

Cummings, an 11-year NBA veteran, was picked up by the Jazz on Dec. 15 after they waived rookie forward Chris Munk. He had been playing in Italy earlier in the season.

Sloan said there "may have been some misunderstanding on his (Cummings') part. I think that he thought he might have been here all along. I don't know what all the ramifications are, because our people haven't talked to him yet."

The departure of Cummings leaves an opening on the Jazz roster, presumably for a backup power forward, which Munk and Cummings both played.
