The San Diego Padres filled their need for a right-handed reliever when they signed new-look free-agent Larry Andersen to a two-year contract worth $4.35 million.

Friday's deal includes a club option for 1993 that, if exercised, would make the contract worth $6 million. Andersen was signed for 1991 at $985,000 before he was given new-look free agency on Dec. 7.Andersen, 37, spent most of the 1990 season with Houston, where he was 5-2 with six saves and a 1.95 ERA in 50 relief appearances. The nine-year veteran was traded to the Boston Red Sox in August and appeared in 15 games for the American League East champions, going 0-0 with one save and a 1.23 ERA.
