A 72-year-old Burley woman who was shot to death was not terminally ill before she was killed, Cassia County Sheriff Billy Crystal says.

While authorities continued a search for 77-year-old Raymond Stanton on Friday, Crystal said an autopsy showed that his wife, Ellen, was not terminally ill, but Stanton may have believed she was.Ellen Stanton had surgery to remove cancer about six years ago, Crystal said. The scar tissue from that operation had built up and may have been causing pain, leading the Stantons to believe she was extremely ill, he said.

Stanton disappeared Tuesday, before a construction worker at their home found the woman with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Stanton may be driving a brown 1986 Pontiac Sunbird with Idaho license plates 1J 11216. He is wanted for questioning, Crystal said.
