The St. Mary's Gaels went ahead with 7:07 remaining on Kevin Weatherby's third consecutive 3-point shot and pulled away to a 80-69 victory over Weber State on Saturday.
Weatherby, a reserve guard, finished with 14 points in nine minutes of play. He took only three shots from the field and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line.The top scorer for St. Mary's (4-8) was Eric Bamberger, with 21 points.
The score was 54-54 when Weatherby sent St. Mary's ahead to stay. The Gaels then outscored Weber (2-6) 21-7 over the next six minutes.
Tony Nicholas scored 16 points for Weber's Wildcats and Al Hamilton added 12. Weber shot 50 percent from the floor, topping the Gaels' 47 percent mark, but got only seven points on foul shots, compared to St. Mary's 22.
