Four schools have been selected to compete on behalf of Utah in the 1990-91 Secondary School Recognition Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.
They are Highland High School, Ivan Cendese principal; Layton High School, Paul C. Smith principal; Hillcrest High School, Ted P. Lovato, principal; and Springville Middle School, George Rasband, principal.Four entries was Utah's proportionate share based on educational department figures. Applications are being sent to Washington, D.C., this week, where they will be reviewed by an independent panel of judges in January. Site visitors will review the schools from mid-February through mid-April and final judging will take place in late April.
"Participation this year was greater than expected and competition was extremely keen," said Eileen Rencher, public communications coordinator for the State Office of Education.
