After tabling it once because the annual cost has doubled, Davis County commissioners Wednesday approved a $24,000 contract for the county's emergency medical services medical director.
Dr. Dennis Wyman, an emergency room physician at Lakeview Hospital, serves as the county's EMS medical director and as medical director of the county sheriff's department's paramedic program.Wyman has been involved with the EMS council for more than a decade, mostly as a volunteer but in the past two years as the paid medical director.
His contract last year was for $12,000, going to $24,000 for 1991. That increase prompted commissioners Robert Rose and Dub Lawrence on Monday to question the amount and the issue was tabled.
On Wednesday, after looking into the contract, Rose moved to approve it and it passed, 3-0.
Commission chairman Gayle Stevenson said that the county is getting a bargain despite the doubling of the salary. He doubts the county could find anyone else to take on the amount of responsibility called for in the contract at that price, Stevenson said, noting the paramedic program must by state law operate under the umbrella of a physician's license.
