Chris Hatch, left, and Dee Russell install the letter U in a sign at Weber State College - which will be known as Weber State University as of Jan. 1. The college says it will stage the biggest bash in its 101-year history Dec. 31 to herald both the new year and its new name. More than 1,000 faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of the Ogden community are expected to attend a dinner-dance in the Shepherd Union Building. At midnight, Weber officials will unveil a new "University" sign at the main entrance to the campus on Harrison Boulevard and touch off a fireworks display nearby. Weber State became a college in 1963. Last February, Gov. Norm Bangerter signed a bill granting the school university status.
