Utah received its 25 trumpeter swans last week. The 25 came from Idaho and were released at Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge.

The swans were part of a multi-agency effort to ease pressure on winter range at Henry's Fork on the Snake River in Idaho. Last year, 100 swans died when the river froze and cut off the swans' primary food supply. A dramatic decline in aquatic vegetation in the area this year further threatens the birds. No swan or goose hunting is allowed at Fish Springs, which is located in the West Desert.
