Mrs. F. Clark (Virginia Rea) Sanford, 84, died Dec. 16, 1990, of natural causes at her home, 78-990 Miles Ave. She was a former resident of Provo and Salt Lake City.

She was born December 7, 1906, in Grand Junction, Colorado, daughter of Benjamin F. and Sarah Clough Rea. She married Frederick Clark Sanford in St.Mary's Episcopal Church in Provo in June 1932. They made their home in Salt Lake City, where the late Mr. Sanford became Salt Lake City's chief of police. They were both championship swimmers and divers.

Graduating from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland, Mrs. Sanford served in Salt Lake and Indio area hospitals for many years. She attended Provo schools and graduated from Rowland Hall, Salt Lake City.

She is survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. David (Virginia) DuPree, 41290 Bob Hope Dr., Rancho Mirage, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Pidge Sanford Chamberlain, Salt Lake City; Mrs. George Rea, Provo; granddaughters, Brooke and Amberley Gill, Wynn Higgins, Salt Lake City; great-grandson, Tyler Gill. She was preceded in death by a son, Clark David Sanford, sister and brother-in-law, Lou and Hope Sanford Bettilyon, Satl Lake City; brother, George Rea, Provo.

Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John Hopkins Schools of Nursing, Baltimore, Maryland.
