For the second time in two nights and the third time this season, the Kansas City Blades were able to hold on to a big lead, despite a Salt Lake rally to defeat the Golden Eagles, 7-5 Wednesday night.
The Blades jumped to a 5-0 lead in the second period of play on a shorthanded goal by Mike Hiltner, only to have the Eagles battle back by scoring the next five goals of the game to tie the score at 5-5 in the third period.The Eagles began their comeback when Andrew McKim skated in on goalie Wade Flaherty and was credited with the goal when his shot deflected off Blades' Link Gaetz's skate and into the net.
Kansas City broke the tie midway through the third, when Jeff Odgers scored his fourth goal of the season.
The Eagles dropped to 16-14-2 with the loss. The Blades improved to 10-24-1. Salt Lake finished its road trip with a 2-4 record. They return to the Salt Palace for a four-game homestand beginning Friday, when they host Indianapolis.
