Free agent pitcher Danny Darwin, who led the National League in earned run average last season for the Houston Astros, signed a four-year contract with the Boston Red Sox.

Darwin's agent, Randy Hendricks, said the agreement was worth a possible $12.2 million.In 1990, Darwin was 11-4, with two saves in 17 starts and 31 relief appearances. He had 109 strikeouts and allowed 136 hits in 162.2 innings with a 2.21 ERA.
