Huntsman Chemical Corp., Salt Lake City, has won a first-place award in the 1990 Virginia Take Pride in America program.

Huntsman was recognized for establishing and funding an environmental research center at a major western university and helping develop the "Partnership for the Parks" program, which established recycling in three national parks, Great Smokies, Grand Canyon and Acadia. The corporation also was honored for adopting and regularly cleaning a 1 mile section of Virginia Beach, which is near the corporation's Chesapeake, Va. facility, for taking part in "Clean the Bay" Day to beautify Chesapeake Bay and for its efforts to educate the community about recycling.

Huntsman's Chesapeake employees regularly clean the shores of the eastern branch of the Elizabeth River where the plant is located, removing old tires, bottles and other debris from the shore.

The program honors public and private sector groups that have "contributed to the increased wise use of America's resources." Huntsman will receive the award at a ceremony next spring and is automatically entered into the national competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
