James Defa, husband, father, grandfather, "poppie" and great-grandfather, age 67, died December 17, 1990, after a short illness.
Born on February 14, 1923, in Bluffdale, Utah to Marion and Lucia Diorio Defa. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He married Mildred L. Humphreys on October 8, 1945. Retired from Kennecott Copper Corp. after 41 years of service. Member and past president Granger F.O.E.A farmer all his life, he could often be seen with a straw hat on his head and grease from the John Deer on his hands. He had a unique way with children and always made time for any that came his way. He was a kind and giving man and he will be missed by those of us who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, two sons, James W. and wife, Rose; and Dennis R. and wife, Tana J.; three grandchildren, Brandi Anne, Tyler Brandon and Sarah Lucia; and one great-grandson, Taylor James ; brothers and sisters, Emory and Henry, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Jenny Badovinitz, Mrs. Carol Fish, Mrs. Olive Austin, West Valley City. A special thanks to Jeff and Karen Defa, your love and support are greatly appreciated. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Pondlin and Alfred.

Graveside services will be held Friday, December 21, 1990 at 1 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park, 4100 So. 4400 West. Friends may call at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 South, Magna, Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 10:30-12:30 p.m.
