The Defense Depot in Ogden got into the spirit of Christmas by buying about $17,000 in new clothes for 225 needy children. But the mammoth shopping spree didn't kill the giving spark, so they added other contributions to their holiday:
- They treated 40 senior citizens to a luncheon/party at the Mill Creek Club and gave each one a $50 certificate for groceries and a gift from Santa.- They provided $1,500 to the American Veterans Post 1 for their Christmas dinner/party; $500 for a medical fund at the post that defrays prescription costs for needy elderly; and $500 for Christmas baskets.
- DDO employees also donated $2,500 to support "The Giving Tree" in Newgate Mall, and depot employees volunteered their time to do the shopping.
- The Salvation Army received $1,000 to buy children's gifts.
In addition, employees hand crocheted 100 caps and purchased 1,050 pairs of socks, which were given to local missions.
