A Utah State Prison inmate serving a life term for killing a 14-year-old Kearns girl in 1987 was in serious condition Saturday in University Hospital recovering from wounds suffered in an incident at the facility.

Raymond Joseph Malin, 25, was hospitalized with facial fractures, blood clots and eye wounds, prison spokesman Juan Benavidez said. The inmate had a recreation time with other prisoners before he was discovered in his cell injured.
