An Orem man will be sentenced to prison in January after pleading guilty Friday in 4th District Court to two counts of sodomy on a child.
David Jeffery Brown, 26, was charged with six first-degree felony counts for incidents that took place in June 1985, but four were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea. Brown underwent a mental evaluation at the Utah State Hospital, and doctors determined he suffered a diminished mental capacity but was competent to proceed. Brown's condition does not qualify him for involuntary hospitalization. The charges carry a minimum mandatory sentence of five, 10 or 15 years in prison. Brown will be sentenced Jan. 18 by Judge George E. Ballif.
