Penna Powers Cutting & Haynes Advertising, 136 S. Main, has received an award of merit from the Newspaper Advertising Bureau, the sales promotion and marketing arm of the American newspaper business, for creative newspaper advertising for KXIV, Channel 14.

The firm's winning entry was for the film "Last of the Mohicans," which aired earlier this year. The advertisement showed an Indian with a Mohawk haircut, and the headline said, "See the Haircut That Started a Revolution."John Haynes, firm president, said more than 7,500 newspaper advertisements were submitted for judging in 11 categories. Only 27 were chosen for Athena Award winners and 40 received awards of merits.

In addition to Chuck Penna, the creative team for the advertisement included Shelly Schulthess, art director; Steve Wunderli, copywriter; and Peggy Johnson, account manager.
