The board of governors of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the Athena Businesswoman of the Year Award.
Fred S. Ball, chamber president, said the award's purpose is to recognize women who are successful in their chosen career and actively participate in community service.The award is sponsored by First Security Bank and is an abstract sculpture of the Greek goddess Athena. It will be presented Feb. 21, 1991, during a luncheon that will be part of the chamber's Business to Business Expo '91.
Ball said the award also is intended to provide visibility, recognition and awareness by more companies of the accomplishments of women and their contributions to the work force. "The chamber will recognize a woman who has participated in various chamber activities and has set an example for other women to follow," he said.
Nominees for the award also should demonstrate leadership in her business or profession; demonstrate support of professional women and provide unselfish assistance on their behalf; provide valuable service to the community; and be an active chamber member.
