Beloved husband and father, son and brother, church and community leader, James Rex Moss, passed away December 14, 1990, in an automobile accident due to heart failure.
Born April 23, 1942 in Salt Lake City to Rex F. and Ione Naegle Moss. Married LaVelle Ridd July 6, 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as Stake President, Bishop, High Counselor, and teaching his much loved Gospel Doctrine class in Sunday School.
He has been serving as Executive Director of the Utah Partnership for Education and Economic Development. Prior to that, he served as State Superintendent of Public Instruction. He also was a member of the Utah State Legislature and was a professor of Law and Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University. He helped establish the Church Seminary and Institute of Religion programs in the British Isles and was Division Coordinator of Seminaries and Institutes in the Southern California Division.
Jim graduated in Political Science from the University of Utah, where he served as student body president. He received his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Stanford University where he also taught Institute of Religion and early morning Seminary classes. He also completed all of his course work for his Masters degree in Church History and Doctrine.
His loves were his family activities, church and community service, playing the piano, reading, writing, skiing, tennis, and golf--all of which he did with gusto.
His life was spent in energetic service to his family, church and community.
He is survived by his wife and seven children, James R. Jr., John Ridd, David Joseph, Daniel Jameson, Jefferson Rex, Jared Brigham, and Rachelle, of Orem; and his mother, Mrs. Inoe Moss, St.George; sister, Judy Moss, California; brother, Stephen Roger Moss, Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17, 1990 at 11 a.m., at the Canyon View First Ward LDS Chapel, 600 East 800 North, Orem. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to services or Sunday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Interment, Orem City Cemetery.
