The state's Consumer Protection Division is warning northern Utah residents about a number of unregistered organizations that are soliciting charity donations.

The organizations - Cancer Fund of America, American Heart Disease, National Animal Protection, Walker Cancer Research Institute and Pacific West Cancer Fund - all have legitimate-sounding names, said Dixie Minson, division director.Solicitations have been made statewide, Minson said, but are centered in Cache, Weber, Salt Lake, Summit and Utah counties.

"Citizens are advised that the above listed organizations are not registered as charities in the state and their actions are therefore in violations of the Utah Charitable Solicitation Act," division spokeswoman Pat Eyre said.

Before giving money to any of the unregistered charities, Minson urged residents to contact the division office in Salt Lake City, 160 E. Third South, or call 530-6960.
