A powerful earthquake rocked the coastal Iranian province of Bushehr Monday, injuring at least 25 people, causing landslides and blocking roads.

Several villages were cut off, and rescue teams were struggling to get through.The Geophysics Institute of Tehran University said the quake, measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale, was centered 440 miles south of Tehran.

It was not clear if the quake had affected oil export facilities on the Persian Gulf island of Kharg, which lies off Bushehr Province.
