To make sure it remains uppermost on the minds of everyone, Solitude Ski Area and the Deseret Newspaper in Education program are sponsoring an Environmental Awareness Essay Contest. The contest is open to seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders in school districts in the Salt Lake Valley. One first place winner will be awarded a season ski pass, a $500 value, good for the 1990-91 ski season at Solitude. Additionally, a prize will be awarded for the best essay from each participating school, so journalism, English and creative writing classes are urged to participate.
The contest rules state that only one essay per person will be accepted. It should be typewritten and be not less than 250 and not more than 350 words.
The entries must be mailed to Solitude to arrive before Dec. 24 and include the author's name, the name of his or her school, grade and sponsoring teacher.
