Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev said Friday he was donating more than $1 million, including cash from his Nobel Peace Prize, to child health care.

"When thinking how to dispose of this money, I decided that it should first of all serve children, especially those in ecological disaster zones and in need of special care and treatment," Gorbachev told senior Soviet officials. The Soviet leader was shown speaking on television after officially receiving the Nobel Prize from Deputy Foreign Minister Anatoly Kovalyov, who accepted it on his behalf in Oslo this week.
