...or "welcome: as they say in Utah. Miss Asia of 1990, Stephanie Sato, offers Utah officials a glimpse of Japanese culture at a Thursday press conference announcing Utah has been chosen to host more than 1,800 Japanese participating in the first Japan Week scheduled in the United States. The visitors will be in Salt Lake City from May 25 through June 1 participating in parades, demonstrations and sporting events, including competitions with teams from Utah. Previous Japan Week celebrations have been held in Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Scotland. "The state of Utah is proud to have been selected as the first American location for Japan Week," said Gov. Norm Bangerter. "This is a time for cultural exchange which will have a long-term benefit to our state in business and tourism."
