A town in the northern Philippines has put a three-hour time limit on the singing of Christmas carols and has ordered fund-raisers to get a permit to prevent them from pocketing money given for charity.

San Fabian town mayor Conrado Gubatan said the singing of carols would be restricted to between Sunday and Jan. 6 from 7 to 10 p.m. in an attempt to cut down on thieves posing as carolers to get donations."It is about time that we should put a stop to the activities of certain unscrupulous individuals who go around to undertake caroling only to serve their selfish ends," Gubatan said.
