San Juan County history buffs and writers are urged to get their pencils sharpened and complete manuscripts for the summer issue of Blue Mountain Shadows.

Articles needed to be received by Feb. 1 in order to be considered for publication. The theme of Volume 8 is Civilization comes to San Juan. Articles could be about but are not limited to the following: road, water, electrical or business development, mining, oil drilling, airports, theaters, telephones, postal service - anything that relates to changes in lifestyles and progress in the county.

Dr. Bob McPherson will be the editor of this issue. Manuscripts should be typed, double spaced and submitted to either McPherson at CEU/San Juan Center or to Janet Wilcox, 112 So. 300 W. 54-2 Blanding, UT 84511. Writers are paid $5 per manuscript page, or $3.50 per page for student projects.

The next issue, Volume 9, will focus on education in the county and any research related to that topic would be acceptable. Deadline for the Education issue is July 30, 1990.

"We are very desirous to find additional writers who can research about San Juan county history," Wilcox said. "We think there are potential writers in the Wasatch Front who have roots in San Juan and who could help us keep the magazine going. We hope they will write for us."
