Lendl, seeded second in the $6 million event, beat Christian Bergstrom 6-4, 6-0. Wheaton outlasted Yannick Noah 7-6 (7-2) 6-7 (5-7), 6-3; Gilbert topped Jonas Svensson 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, and Krickstein ousted third-seeded Andres Gomez 6-3, 6-4.
