Avar Garff Crossgrove, 91, died December 11, 1990, in Sandy, Utah.
Born August 2, 1899, in Draper, Utah, to Matilda Garff and Bayard M. Crossgrove. Married Marie Robinson July 17, 1928. To them were born two children: Gae and Larry B. Crossgrove. Marie died March 3, 1963, and Gae Crossgrove Packer died September 7, 1964. Avar attended schools in the Jordan School District participating in sports, especially baseball and basketball, both as a player and as a manager. He was an outstanding poultryman and was vice president of the Draper Poultymen and Egg Association. He also served as a director on the board of the Intermountain Farmers.Survived by his son, Larry, Trinidad, Colorado; brother, Ralph G. Crossgrove; sister, Hulda Crossgrove, both Draper; sister, Mrs. John F. (Helen) Dodson, Sandy; five grandchildren, Mrs. Lyle (Sandra) Kunz, Sandy; Mrs. Stephen (Niki) Naylor, Arizona; Sam Packer, of California; Jon Crossgrove, Salt Lake City; and Toni Shippen, South Jordan; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15th, 1 pm, in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to The Salt Lake Community Shelter & Resource Center, c/o Travelers Aid Society, 210 South Rio Grande, SLC, Utah 84101.
