BYU's football team resumed practice Thursday after taking some time off to prepare for final exams.

That's final exams in the classroom, not the 9th-ranked Cougars' football final in the Dec. 29 Holiday Bowl against Texas A&M.BYU's plan is to continue practicing through next week, then take a few days off before flying to San Diego on Christmas Day.

Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Ty Detmer and his receivers actually started passing drills Monday, trying to regain timing lost during the layoff since the Hawaii game.

BYU defenders, meanwhile, began preparing to face the Aggies' Darren Lewis, hoping to do a better job against the No. 3 rusher in the country than they did against the Rainbows two Saturdays ago.

Coaches report no serious injury problems. Fullback Peter Tuipulotu underwent arthroscopic knee surgery shortly after the Hawaii game but is expected to recover in time for the bowl game.
