Sun Valley Co. is cracking down on reckless skiers on the resort's Bald Mountain runs with a new "zero tolerance" policy.

Bruce Malone, Sun Valley's ski patrol director, said the company is beefing up its enforcement effort this winter throughout the resort, but especially in the five newly designated family ski areas.Ski Patrol and Guest Services Department personnel will ensure compliance with slower and controlled skiing requirements in those areas, Malone said.

Malone said violators face having day or even season lift passes revoked, with individual penalties based on the severity of the violation.

Malone said there have been a number of complaints about fast and out-of-control skiers in recent years, and up to three dozen lift passes have been pulled each year in the past few seasons. However, he said, "There was a public outcry from everywhere" to do more.
