Interior Secretary Manuel Lujan Jr. met last week with leaders of Four Corners area Indian tribes who sought to express concern over the 22-year-old Animas-La Plata water project.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in May proposed a study at a cost of up to $500,000 to determine if the $422 million project would jeopardize the razorback sucker and the endangered Colorado squawfish in the San Juan River.
