The Utah Senate confirmed Leonard H. Russon as a Utah Court of Appeals judge and Leslie A. Lewis as a 3rd District Court judge during a confirmation hearing in the Utah State Capitol Tuesday.

Gov. Norm Bangerter nominated Lewis and Russon to those positions in November. The Senate confirmed the appointments unanimously, with nine members absent.Russon, 57, served as a judge for the 3rd District Court since May 1984. Before that appointment, Russon spent 21 years as a trial lawyer before state and federal courts as well as administrative courts and commissions.

Russon replaces Judge Richard Davidson, who has resigned.

Lewis, 42, will be the only woman among the 14 judges in the 3rd District Court. She was named to replace Judge Raymond Uno, who retired.

Lewis is a partner with the law firm of Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough. Before joining the firm, she spent 10 years as a prosecutor in the justice division of the Salt Lake County attorney's office. She was named Salt Lake County's Prosecutor of the Year in 1985.
